Alaskan Inspiration:

You’ve probably seen the photos and videos of the blue pools of water on glaciers in Alaska. That beautiful blue set among the cold white ice is breathtaking.

Meltwater set in cavities of ice that mirror some of the most beautiful blue waters of the Caribbean, except it’s on a glacier in Alaska.

Cold. Pure. Magical.

So what causes the water to look so very blue? According to usgs.gov, glacier ice is blue because the red (long wavelengths) part of white light is absorbed by ice and the blue (short wavelengths) light is transmitted and scattered. The longer the path light travels in ice, the more blue it appears.

If you’ve been fortunate enough to land on a glacier and see them up close, you’ve been blessed.
