A Bracelet with a Story to Tell™
Alaskan Wild Iris Bracelet Inspiration: The Alaska Wild Iris bracelet has a great backstory. I was asked by a gentleman to make his wife the purpliest bracelet I could make her! None of the other bracelets we offer were purple enough. LOL!
That sent me on a hunt. First, I had to find an Alaskan purple inspiration, and I didn’t have to look far. I only had to look in our yard at the Alaska native Wild Iris we grow called Iris Setosa. That’s when I decided Amethyst was the perfect purple for his bride and for the Alaskan Wild Iris.
When the Amethyst came in, it was even more beautiful than the photos showed when I ordered it. I sat down at my workstation with a picture of the Wild Iris. I have always thought the yellow center of the Iris really makes the purple petals pop! I knew I needed to use 14K gold-filled beads to capture that beautiful yellow inspiration.
lwpetersen.com has some great information about the native Alaskan Wild Iris. “The flower of the Iris Setosa is deep violet to blue 2.5-4” across. The plant grows up to 3’ tall. The Wild Iris has two sets of 3 petals. The larger outer sepals called falls are veined and often have a white and/or yellow center. The inner petals, called the standard, are narrow and upright. There are usually 3 flowers on each stalk, although it may range between 1-4 flowers.”
Our Interpretation: The petals of the Alaska Wild Iris bracelet are represented by the most beautiful Amethyst, and the yellow center of the sepals are represented by 14K gold-filled spacers. There is one beautiful 14K gold-filled bead to represent the beauty hidden in the throat of the sepals. Don’t forget to look at the tiny things because they often make the large picture more beautiful!
