PRODUCT STORY

A Bracelet with a Story to Tell™:

Steller's Jay Bracelet Inspiration: We have a Steller’s Jay that loves to visit our porch, but he is incredibly camera shy.   Any time I pick up my camera or pull out my phone, off he flies! If you’re not familiar with a Steller’s Jay, they are beautiful birds, a medium size bird that is royal blue with a black crown.  They like to hear themselves talk, and they can be pretty darn sassy! Steller’s Jays are common in southcentral and southeast Alaska, while the Interior sees their cousin the Canada Jay.

They live in forests, which explains why we see them so regularly.  We have a lot of woods on our property, and we are surrounded by more trees than we can count in the mountains where we live. The Steller’s Jay do mate for life, which is probably a good thing since they can be pretty cantankerous.  If you’re having a picnic, don’t be surprised if they try to steal your lunch!

If you remember, when we released Wilson’s Warbler I mentioned that a lot of birds are being renamed.  Steller’s Jay is one of those birds.  They’re now called Blue Jays.  You know what?  I’ll still call them by the names I’ve always known them as!

Alaskan Interpretation:  I’ve actually been working on a design for this bracelet for some time.  I didn’t want just plain round black and blue beads.  I used three polished Black Agate beads for the black crown of the Steller’s Jay, and then, for the beautiful blue body, I used Lapis Lazuli rice shaped beads with three blue druzy beads for a little bit of sparkle because what lady doesn’t like a little sparkle?!
